Dueling Dessert Recipes - Chocolate or Fruity?

We have been so curious to know, what type of gut-friendly recipes do you want to see the most of... and you all answered! 

Desserts! 

Since we are pretty torn on chocolate sweets or fruity sweets, we figured why use the word "or" when we can use the word "and". Cue: mindset hack. 

Scope out two of our favorite gut-friendly recipes- gluten free, refined sugar free, dairy free, wheat free, egg free. Flavor-FULL.

 

Black Bean Brownies

What you’ll need:
1 1/2 cups black beans (drained and rinsed well)
2-3 tbsp cocoa powder  
1/2 cup almond flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup pure natural maple syrup
1/4 cup coconut
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup to 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
optional: almond butter and maple syrup drizzle

Preheat oven to 350F. Combine all ingredients except chips in a food processor, and blend until completely smooth. Fold in chocolate chips then add to a bake safe dish or tin. Bake for 15-18 minutes, then let cool at...

A DECADE, of dreading being in a bathing suit and just WEEKS in our program this MOVE.r was in completely different shape.

Sunday Scaries, Anyone?

We are so over them.

 

They are kind of a mix of buyer’s remorse from #weekending (it’s a thing) combined with angst of returning to work, routine and maybe it’s all topped with the pressure of getting “back on track.” Meaning eating all the salads, doing all the workouts and vowing to never eat Chinese food at 2am, again.

 

No wonder you are scared.
Reality Check: We’re human. We are social beings. Chinese food is delicious.

 

When you restrict your body of certain things and build your mentality around “on and off track” you set yourself up for binging… it’s like once you start you feel like you “ruined everything” so mine as well keep on going on this path of ruin.

 

 Not only does this mess with your body, it messes with your belly, damages your gut and certainly your mind.

MOVE. Approved (or not)

Have you seen our #FridayFuel posts on Instagram?

You all know we loveeeeee ourselves some IG!

Well, if you haven't, each week we search for all sorts of meals and snacks proclaiming to be healthy (some specifically claim to be gut health... sigh) and we give it the "yay" or "nay" on the #moveapproved stamp.

Not surprisingly, they generate a TON of questions. So we figured we would share some of the guidelines that go into making the cut.

  • Fat-free, sugar-free, highly processed (cue: gut damaging foods) are a no.
  • No counting, measuring or weighing our food. We are adults.
  • Proper food combining for optimal digestion, major yes.
  • Healing foods are a yes.
  • Prioritizing the nutrition and actual  benefits of food over the wrapper, yup.
  • Fitting 5 different food groups into a cafeteria tray or tupperware…. Heck no.

 

We’ll be honest, we both struggled with the counting, the pressures, the fat-free (cheese, ice-cream, butter, bread, pretzels and everything else). We...

Protein Muffin MOVE.s

We confess- we don't do a whole lot of baking because measuring and attention to detail isn't our zone of genius. At all. But we will certainly make an exception for these... anytime. 

 
We adapted these muffins from a couple of different recipes- one was a dessert we really liked from Chocolate Covered Katie (follow her if you don't!) and the other an energy muffin from Shalene Flanagan (again, follow if you don't!). The goal was to have a performance based muffin that is light enough to have before a workout yet nourishing enough to get through the workout. 
 
We sampled them in the kitchen all last week. Over and over... just to be safe, for all of you. Then we really put them to the test when Mel headed to Salem, MA for a 20-mile road race. One muffin pre-run and she was good to go!

We've been getting a lot of questions on how to take passions and transform them from a hobby to a business. As we entered our own Q2 with new goals and new MOVE.s ahead, we wanted to share 5 MOVE.s To Bring You Growth.


1- Figure Out where your skillset, passion and ability to serve merge. Don’t force it, don’t fake it and don’t only focus on you. Show up to serve.

 2- Test The Waters. Get a small group to give you feedback. Thought to action to reflection (we see you, Ayurveda). Continue this cycle. There is no finish line to growth.

 3- Invest In yourself. You can’t expect anyone to invest in you if you aren’t invested in yourself. The more value you have to offer, the more you can authentically give. The more you can authentically give, the more you can serve.

 4- Take Messy Action. Perfection Paralysis is real. There will never be a perfect time. No one cares if your webpage colors...

6 Reasons Your Gut, Has Got, Your Next PR

Gut health is all the talk right now and there’s one major reason I believe that this “trend” is here to stay; it works…..  at the end of the day, we were DESIGNED to digest our food. We were literally made to create humans, we can handle eating. We just need to stop complicating things and then spending our time, money and energy trying to figure out how to uncomplicate it.

 

Digestion is a huge energy source; what we eat is supposed to give us energy but eating (and digesting) requires energy. Think about it like a bank account, fueling should be a deposit but for many, it acts as a withdrawal. They don’t understand why they are tired, bloated, foggy or not getting results that they are working for.
